There are many young wine growers in Austria , but for Matthias Hager this applies specially.
After being apprentice at some reputated wine growers like Franz Hirzberger in the Wachau or Ernst Triebaumer at Rust he began to create his own style of wine at the age of 19.
The ingredients for a promising wine were already there: precious soil, appropriate sites and old vines.
Before the fermentation he treats the grapes carefully and gives the must the chance to extract a good deal of the berry skin´s aromas. After fermentation he uses the ´sur lie´ technique to enrich the wine´s mouth feeling. Then the wine has plenty of time to mature before it is filled into bottles.
Soon Matthias was recognized by the “Falstaff”, one of Austria´s leading wine and gourmet magazines.
But not only the skill of the wine-maker creates the unique character of the wine. The natural resources like soil and climate are the ingredients for an excellent product. At Matthias´s vineyards it is the variety of minerals and the many microclimata which make each vineyard to bring up its unique grapes.
This took Matthias to the idea to create two different quality lines apart from white and red.
